Introduction

Published on Wednesdays and Fridays, the Bermuda Sun newspaper has been a trusted source of local news since it was founded in 1964. Politically independent and widely acknowledged as a true community paper in close touch with its diverse readership, the Sun plays a meaningful role in island life.

The Sun is headquartered at the Donald French Building in Hamilton, where it is printed by our sister company Island Press.

Lisa Beauchamp joined the Bermuda Sun in June 1994 as a sales representative. She was promoted to sales and marketing manager in 1996, became general manager in 2004 and president in 2006. She has more than 20 years of international media experience, having also worked for prestigious companies in her native UK and also Dubai.

News is about people and at the Sun we pride ourselves on the strength of our bonds with readers and sources and take very seriously our duty to provide accurate, fair and relevant information.

The paper has lively sections covering news, business, commentary, lifestyle, entertainment and sports.

We prize lucid, thoughtful writing and go ‘beyond the headlines’ to put human faces on the issues of the day and present stories in accessible, engaging ways. Tony McWilliam joined the Bermuda Sun as a senior reporter in 1990 and covered all of the major events on the Island over the next decade. He became a sub-editor/writer and was appointed editor in 1999. Tony cut his teeth as a news reporter on a large weekly newspaper group on Merseyside, in the UK, before moving to a busy evening paper that covered the city of Chester and the urban centres of North Wales. He studied journalism at Richmond College, Sheffield.

The Bermuda Sun’s online archive contains more than 50,000 searchable articles, along with photos and video clips of local news and events. Comment sections on each story item encourage our users to debate the issues with fellow readers around the world.

Alison Shadbolt joined the Bermuda Sun in 2009. She runs BermudaSun.bm, SunShopper.bm and SunEmployment.bm, and consults for the bermuda.com websites. Alison has more than 15 years of experience in print and digital media in Bermuda and the UK.

Online classifieds

SunShopper is Bermuda’s only classified website that offers free advertising both online and in print. There are more than 50 categories ranging from cars, bikes and furniture to jewellery, yard sales and apartment rentals. Users can sign up for daily alerts about new listings.

The classified listings are published free in the Bermuda Sun newspaper on Wednesdays and the real estate section — comprising sales, rental and wanted properties — prints on Fridays. Every Friday our paper’s SunShopper carries an island map pinpointing the location of Yard Sales.

 

Online jobs

Launched in November 2010, sunemployment.bm is a Bermuda Sun website that links job seekers with vacancies both locally and overseas. Employment ads that appear in our newspaper are automatically uploaded to our employment website — for free. Users can place employment listings for 14 days, free of charge.

Sections cover Government Careers, All Applicants Welcome (locals and non-residents), Positions for Bermudians only, and Off Island Positions. Users can receive daily alerts of new listings.
